Shambles

My hospital appointment y'day was a complete shit show. I attended because I'd had text reminder of the appointment.

The letter I should have received was sent to the incorrect address so I didn't get it.

Despite this being explained repeatedly to the staff they kept referring to the letter.

The hospital I attended is small and relatively quiet, I also found it disorganised and confusing.

I repeatedly explained that I was deaf but people still insisted on not facing me to aid lip reading.

We were sent to wait in the wrong area and I nearly missed my appointment.

I had my blood pressure taken, I requested a larger blood pressure cuff because I have fat arms but my request was ignored until my daughter insisted. The person taking my blood pressure swapped the cuff but behaved like a sulky child who had been reprimanded!

I hate to think what would have happened if my daughter hadn't been there to advocate for me.

I often find that people just don't listen nowadays. Good job your daughter was with you.

Oh gosh, that sounds like a complete farce. My blood pressure would have been through the roof by the end of that debacle.

I’m so sorry you had such a dire experience.
For the past two and a half years I have been attending UCLH, every hospital should have their ethos, they are excellent. Unfortunately before I was referred to UCLH I was badly let down by my local hospital. We made an official complaint not only to the hospital but also to the Care Quality Commission and the Intergrated Commissioning Board.
Thank goodness for our daughters where would we be without them.

The last time I had my blood pressure taken the nurse slapped the cuff on as soon as I sat down. My arm wasn't in the right position when she pressed the button. She hadn't checked it and was talking to me all the time, so I thought she was about to adjust it before starting. Then she asked me a question while the cuff was inflated, forcing me to speak.
I am not a medical person, but I was not surprised when she said the reading was high. A nurse in their first week of training could have done it better.

I've had it taken on the bend of my arm with my feet dangling in the air whilst trying to answer questions. All big no no
