I have a bank account that Steve is unaware of, I do all my banking online so there are no bank statements for him to find. I keep a small amount of money in the joint account to cover bills and I keep some cash on me. Everything else goes into my other account.

Good for you, you're well prepared. I've always thought you're savvy enough and know what you're doing.
Good to hear.
Good for you. Stay strong, you've tried your best but now you need to think about yourself and Beano. Hope you can leave the flat soon.
It sounds as though you have been very sensible with your finances.
Very well prepared. I wish you all the luck in being able to move quickly. Carol
So happy to read that, well done , financial independence is the key to your freedom. How are you coping now you've made the decision to leave? I hope you can get out quickly now, the cleaner the break the better, wishing you all the best x
Thank goodness you have - You've been very wise to do so - Onwards and upwards now to a happy relaxed daily life - flis xx
Excellent! Hoping you & Beano will be safely & permanently away from Steve very, very soon. Wishing you the very best!
I think it might be wise to delete this post .A solicitor acting for Steve now or in the future could find this and you could be accused of hiding money and it could all get a bit nasty. There are firms which solicitors use to trace assets belonging to separating/ divorcing couples. Don't underestimate how unpleasant things could get when he realises he has no money and nowhere to live.
I'm glad you have planned so you can take care of yourself. I hope you and Beano can move closer to your daughter so you will be able to spend more time with family.
I'm not sure that Steve would be homeless if you move out. He would probably be entitled to Housing benefit and maybe some other help with expenses. He seems to cope with many things already - ordering goods, getting about, etc. so he could order ready meals and take himself off to meet his drinking mates, etc. You don't need to be concerned about him any more. Wishing you all the best with your new life xx
I've always had my own account, but we have a joint one too. My Granny always said I should have money for a rainy day. Fortunately we have weathered many years together. Do hope you find somewhere to live soon. Xx
