I managed to trip y'day and ended up stretched out on the pavement.
Beano immediately returned to my side and stood quietly, though he did look puzzled.
I was on my way to the pub to return a small sewing repair that I'd done for someone. I'm glad I wasn't in my way out of the pub as that could have caused gossip!
Two people who were passing stopped to see if I was ok, I was fine but mortified. My knees are black and blue and I broke a couple of fingernails but that is all so I got off very lightly.
My balance is never brilliant and after my first stroke I used a walking stick for a while. Steve complained vociferously about me using a walking stick as he felt it made him look old, so I started to manage without.
I have now ordered a new walking stick and will use it on days when I'm unsteady.

Glad you didn't break anything. Good idea to use a cane.
I'm glad you aren't badly hurt. A stick seems like a sensible idea. Even if you don't need to rely on it all the time it will be there to help when you need it.
Ouch, good job you did no serious damage to yourself and Beano was good and did not run off. Yes, a walking stick is a good idea x
I've fallen twice and both times my pride was hurt more than my body, thankfully. Makes you feel a bit vulnerable, good idea to use a stick for a while. I have a pretty purple flowery one for when I'm feeling a bit wobbly. How lovely that Beano stayed with you.
I use a stick now, started using after a bad fall a few years back. It helps my balance and posture, I walk more upright now with my stick. If you do happen to fall then you can use it to help you back up, holding on to it and pushing yourself back up as I have done a couple of times..Mine has a wrist strap so it doesn't fly out of my hand of course. I hope you are ok, it's quite a shock when you suddenly find yourself on the deck out of the blue
That must have shaken you up a bit but I'm glad nothing serious happened.
In Australia, walking sticks are not encouraged as they are not 100% stable. In wet or uneven surfaces more so. Those of us who have mobility issues are recommended to use mobility walkers and we do follow the advice.
Good morning. my husband uses a walking stick with 3 legs and a seat. He bought it off ebay. Just a thought. Christine.
Glad you did not break any bones. Take care.
I am taking a drug that makes me slightly unsteady at times. A couple of weeks ago I bought hiking poles to make me feel more secure.Jean/Winnipeg
Pleased that nothing was broken, but sorry that you had a fall. A cane would help to steady your balanc but I understand your reluctance to use one. None of us like to think we are "oldies" but it will help.
