Dealing with nightmares

I don't get nightmares as such, I do suffer from anxiety dreams where I've lost someone or something or I'm too far from home.

Beano unfortunately does suffer, not the normal dog dreams of chasing and running.

He twitches and snarls, snaps and whimpers its so horrible to watch. I usually wake him by stroking him and talking softly to him.

Once he is awake he either climbs on my lap for a cuddle or if I'm in bed he wriggle up until he's under my armpit.

I wish that our pups could tell us their stories.

My boy is also a rescue, the society had a fairly good history on him. But I know he misses his first family even now, nearly a decade later. He came from a family with three small children. To this day, he still looks into strollers to see the child and will try and get into minivans if the door is open.

He's loved and secure but his first family still have a part of his brain and heart.

All we can do is love them and keep them safe.

Poor little Beano. Was he abused or mis-treated? He must be so relieved when he opens his eyes and sees you.

I wonder what little Beano is re-experiencing in is doggie dreams? I'm glad you are there to cuddle and comfort him.

My little Fuzzy Pomeranian often lets out little puppyish yipes, and his little legs are running or twitching as he lays there on his side sound asleep. Until just about two years ago or so he would often dream about being a tiny puppy again. He would make little sucking noises and his mouth was shaped as if he were nursing, the tip of his tongue stuck out when he was making those little sucking noises. I guess maybe he finally outgrew that, he is 15 years old. I would love to hear stories from him about what his life was like when he was a puppy, if only he could speak.
