The joy of peas

I've been struggling with the gout.

Walking Beano is difficult.

Sleeping is difficult.

Standing is difficult.

I've ordered some cherry extract and I'm waiting for it to arrive.

I have been taking turmeric and paracetamol but it's not helping much.

Today I bought some ibuprofen in an effort to reduce the inflammation.

I was still in a lot of pain so I made a conscious effort, after taking both painkillers and the turmeric, to sit down with my foot raised, I filled a small sandwich bag with frozen peas and kept it against my toe joint.

Finally a few pain free hours.

Was it the rub in gel ibuprofen? I find that very effective for all sorts. My mother had your after she dropped a frozen chicken on her foot. Don't ask it was typical of her daftness.

When I had a bad bout I was told to get off my feet as much as possible for two weeks and yes, ice did help. It had happened at half year for the company I worked for so on critical days they cabbed me in and out and assigned someone to do the running around for me so the only reason I left my desk was to go to the bathroom!
I was warned that if it kept happening then a - not too pleasant - medication would be required - so far, I've had tiny but manageable flareups and have avoided that.
Try to rest up as much as you can - and lots of fluids.

Hester, are you sure it is gout? As I mentioned to you, we were sure my husband had gout in the one big toe and it turned out to be arthritis. Even the doctor was amazed since he has not got any arthritis in the rest of his body.

Yes, my DH has rheumatoid arthritis in the big toe. The joint is Huge! The rheumatologist has him on some immune suppressant drug often given to cancer victims. It seems to help.

have had gout flareups twice over the past few weeks. I do have a tablet prescribed for me and it does help a bit, also take codrydomal prescribed for my arthritis. It seemed to demotivate me to do things since lockdown so I have set up a blog to try and motivate me to do things and be accountable. it is pastorswife69.com Hope your gout improves soon.

Actually gout is now recognized as a form or arthritis so it is all related.

I don't use ibuprofen gel, I don't trust Beano not to try licking it off!

I don't have confirmation that it is gout, but as Margie says gout is now recognised as a form of arthritis so I feel that treating the symptoms is the way to go.

Gout is crippling, my poor husband suffers from it. It's worth trying to get a diagnosis if you can as it can be managed. He takes allupurinol, which works. It's one if those meds that you have to take all the time.

Tumeric is not the be all and end all.

Research is showing that it is only effective used over a lifetime. So adding it to your meals or taking tablets isn't going to provide a quick fix.

I feel for you, my friend suffers. Shes had to omit so many goods from her diet now to get it under control. So many foods that are considered healthy are triggers for gout.

I also take Allopurinol, prescribed by my doctor. But foods to avoid include Tomatoes, Potatoes, Peppers, Sugar, anything containing Gluten . . .
Bromelain and Devil's Claw are recommended - quite a few other supplements are helpful, but it depends how deep our pockets are !
