Crocodile.

Walking Beano on his second walk of the day we headed up towards the big school. At one point we were overtaken by a crocodile of children from the little school, they were heading there for their swimming lessons.

I stepped to one side and shortened Beano's lead, I didn't want him to suddenly shoot across through the crocodile in search of an exciting smell.

I reassured the children and staff that Beano was friendly, at that, most of the children turned to make a fuss of him. Beano lapped up all the attention, he never jumps up at anyone apart from me but he stood there surrounded by children all of them reaching down to stroke him. He wagged his little stumpy tail, absolutely delighted with all the attention.

Once again I learned something new! Sure enough Google says "(UK/informal): A long line of people walking together, usually children in pairs." All we know here is the animal similar to an alligator. I wish I had kept a list of all the words I have encountered only in your posts over the years. Educational for sure! I'm sure the children and Beano were happy.

In today’s sad world I’m looking for little moments of joy. Beano and the children were a moment of joy, so thank you Beano. June

We see lots of little crocodiles of children in our town. The nursery staff walk the little ones from the various day nurseries to the small play areas in the park. They look so cute in their little Hi-Vis vests, all holding hands and being very serious. Bringing up the rear is usually a couple of staff with double buggies for the smallest ones.

It must take an awful lot of preparation to get them all ready for the adventure, but I guess it's worth it when they get back tired out and ready for a bit of quiet time.
