More about the flat.

The flat is fully carpeted and has curtains, a cooker, fridge/freezer and microwave.  We have our own microwave and probably won't use the cooker much as we have an air fryer.

We hopefully will only need a few pieces of furniture.

We are going tomorrow to measure up and then on to a large charity warehouse to buy what we need. Steve would prefer to buy new but he always buys cheap crap that falls apart in no time.

Jennie went over on Friday and said the flat got very warm, very quickly when she tried the heating. She also spoke to a resident who was very pleased to hear that is a couple moving in as they are short of men. I'm not telling Steve as he will automatically decide he's not going to speak to anyone.

I intend to join in with anything and everything on offer, I've spent too many years isolated on the boat. I'm hoping that if I start joining in that Steve will be but if not I still will.

Sounds lovely. Great attitude. No need to let Steve dictate now.

Sounds positive. Enjoy your shopping, I often think that second hand is better than new which always seems cheaply made and over priced these days. Good on you for joining in as much as you can, this is your time to enjoy.

Sounds all good. It will be great to get in and settled.

I wear second hand clothes from top to toe.
I’ve spent years in the “rag trade” - clothes that have lasted more than one owner will be well made.
The same goes for furniture!

I'm so happy that the flat is yours to measure and soon to move into!! Hope you find good quality furniture made of good wood and at good prices to meet your needs. DH makes furniture and most of our furniture was inherited so is made of old close-grained wood. DH says "new stuff is no good!"

Hugs!

I’m so pleased you’re getting sorted. I much prefer second hand for furniture. Or pre loved as it’s called now. Most of our furniture is pre loved. I’m so looking forward to reading about you moving in and getting settled. Lots of hugs Debbie. X

Older furniture is usually made of real wood. Let us know how your social life goes after you are settled in.

It will be so lovely for you to actually get into a "proper' home again! It's been a long time since you had your own 'bricks and mortar' around you!
Due to building and housing regs these days, your flat should be up to date on insulation etc, which will make it far cheaper and easier to heat than either of the boats were, and being able to hang curtains will make a huge difference too!
Just think, a proper kitchen, with storage space, it's going to be great!
Hopefully Steve will calm down a bit once you're settled in the flat, and can both relax a bit.
You should definitely join in with everything available to you, it will do you good to get away from Steve, and it might even do him some good having to cope without you every now and again too. You've been living 'cheek by jowl' for a long time now, and even if both parties are in perfect health, that's difficult, and it won't have been doing either of you any good. Getting away from each other for a few hours a couple of times a week could work miracles for your mental health! He'll moan and grizzle of course, but he'll get used to it, and it may even force him to put himself out there and talk to other people, even if everyone apart from him is an 'idiot'!
Take care, Col X

This is wonderful news and I’m glad you will be seeking out company and joining in with groups. Agree totally about buying second hand-you will get quality items that won’t need replaced. Catriona

That sounds perfect. You can hand Steve over to all the lady residents and let them cope with him for a while. He'll either love it or hate it, but at least you will have a little bit of time to yourself to join in with the things that you want to join in with.

Sounds wonderful! Much of our wooden furniture is second hand…from the early 1900s. Pretty much indestructible Enjoy your new home!

Sounds like this new home will be a much happier fit for your current circumstances. Lovely and warm, smaller and easier to manage and company too, perfect! Hope everything goes really well for you.
