Steve has been taking Nurofen plus painkillers for a painful knee for a couple of months. Actually he takes painkillers most of the time though the reasons vary.
As I said it's his knee that is currently bothering him, he thinks it's swollen but I can't see any swelling. He does limp when he walks. There again he has carrying far too much weight so his knees may well be painful. He believes he gets plenty of exercise because he potters in the garden but our trip to the nearby charity shop proved him wrong. He really struggled to get there and caught the bus back.
This evening he's been clutching his wrist, it seems that it's painful. He will start wearing his wrist brace and continue to take the painkillers I'm sure, I have tried to persuade him to cut down but he won't. I know they aren't good for him but he will continue to take them. He's not 70 yet but he has a very poor diet and drinks far too much. The extra strong painkillers don't help.

Your regular walks with Beano are an ideal way to exercise at our age ( I think we are about the same age! ) - fresh air, a chance to enjoy the natural surroundings and the occasional stop and chat.
You are right to be concerned about Steve, his diet and his self-medicating habits. I'm guessing you have suggested he sees a doctor - but he ignores your advice. Could you make an appointment for yourself and let the doctor know how worried you are?
It is so hard to help a person who won’t help himself. I got DH to collect a sample pot for cystitis, but when done, he left it in the bathroom, as if that was all he had to do, a miracle cure! He said something about a scan but has completely forgotten all about it, denies it was ever mentioned. Got annoyed when I suggested phoning the helpful GP receptionist.
I added dried cranberries to his muesli and put out cranberry sauce for jam, and made him some extra hot drinks. He moaned for a week, but seems better.
Suggestions to my dearly beloved annoy him - For peace I try to to keep advice to myself - Sugary stuff aggravates rheumatoid arthritis I understand of which he snacks on endlessly - He is very thin now at under 9 stone - Consultant at hospital apparently not concerned - I'm not welcome to attend to the twice yearly appointment as I would voice my concerns x
I have a problem too, DB will not accept what he is told, he was kept in bed, in hospital, for a total of 5 weeks and despite exercises, he is not getting any stronger, he has carers in the morning and also to get him undressed for bed, apart from that he uses a glider to get around which means I have to either push or pull him around. He also has Meniers disease, it can come on at any times and means he can just fall. Arthritis in my knees does not help, nor does the fact that I broke my leg earlier this year. I am still driving, but cannot get out, there is no way I can get DB out to the car. So it's a case of shut up and put up.Its frustrating to say the least.
