80/20

I try to abide by the 80% 20% rule when I eat so I aim for 80% of my food intake to be healthy.

I also eat early, as I age, I find food eaten too late just lays heavy and disrupts my sleep.

Steve has been advised to improve his diet, his current diet is also 80/20. 80% beer, 20% BBQ chicken wings.

He's currently trying to persuade me to start cooking for him every night, as advised by the Dr. I would if he'd eat normal food but his is still insisting on junk food. If I cook it for him it's still going to be junk. I'm an ok cook with real ingredients but frozen chips and instant food defeats me.

Do you have an air fryer? Chips made that way can be a lot healthier as you're in charge of what's on them! We have air fryer fish and chips once a week. They're really nice, and I can't see us going back to frozen chips again. Would his GP send you both (not that you need to) to a nutritionist together so you can explain what he actually eats? I don't suppose he'll have told the doctor the truth of what he eats.

I had to laugh at your Steve's current 80/20 diet....although it's not funny really. But if that's what he chooses....let him. If my husband complains about something I've cooked (which he does quite often nowadays), I just shrug and say "well feel free to cook it yourself next time".

Brilliant!
If I have to do the shopping and all of the cooking, DH is getting healthy (frugal) meals with plenty of fruit and vegetables, eat it or do without.
The only thing he makes for himself is toast, DD bought him a left-handed bread knife so at least he can cut is own bread now!

Unless mine is ill I will not get involved in his demands about his meals - He never ever complained about them when he worked - but gradually since his retirement And his mother's interference the meals I prepared were criticised one time too many x
