Why

I'm terrified of water, can't swim, scared of heights (lock gates can be very high) and I'm allergic to willow fluff.

So why did I think it would be a good idea to move onto a narrowboat?

Because the positives that you get from it massively out weigh these negatives ;)

You're a far braver woman than me!
I would love to have a canal boat holiday, but my fears stop me. I know I couldn't ever walk across at a lock, I'm far too scared of heights and water! The thought of going to sleep on a boat terrifies me, it might sink while I wasn't looking!
Even walking along canal paths makes me shaky, I do have an absolute terror of water, it's more than just a fear!
At times when we're driving in heavy traffic and I see canal boats puttering along, I get jealous of the life style, but I know it's not for me!
I love reading your blog, as I live my canal boat life vicariously through you!

Many boaters won't cross the lock gate,so they only open one paddle and one gate. CHS can usually get through one gate but I open both paddles to speed up the lock filling and emptying.
I used to lie awake worrying about the boat sinking but I have now got over it.
