I lost yesterday

 I spent the day feeling very dizzy, this makes clambering over the lock gates a bit of a challenge!

Hey ho, it's the same every year, I'm dizzy all winter and then when the weather improves and the pollen count rises I start sneezing. It's all to do with my ears, I did speak to the Dr's about it a few years ago as when I was working it was difficult to keep bending over to operate the machines, but they couldn't suggest anything helpful.

 I'll adapt to the dizziness in a few days I expect but it is annoying as it wakes me up when I turn over in bed and getting up for the bathroom means hanging on to the walls as I stagger along.

I cooked beef with roast potatoes, colcannon, and veg for Steve but I couldn't eat it. I'll cut up the beef and make a curry with it this evening, hopefully I'll manage to eat some of it and if not I'll freeze it.

Sounds as if you may have vertigo, not pleasant. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Sue,
I occasionally have really awful attacks of Vertigo, so you have my sympathy.

A friend told me a few months ago about the 'Epley Manoeuver', which has helped enormously.
Try this, but be careful afterwards, you may be a bit wobbly for an hour or so after doing it.

Start by sitting upright on a flat surface, preferably right in the middle of the bed, with a pillow behind you and with your legs outstretched.
Turn your head 45 degrees to the right.
With your head still turned, quickly recline with your head on the pillow. Stay in this position for at least 30 seconds.
Slowly turn your head to the left, a full 90 degrees, without lifting your neck.
Engage your whole body, turning it to the left so that you are completely on your left side.
Slowly return to your original position, looking forward and sitting straight up.
Sit up gently though, and stay in that position for a few minutes, just in case you go a bit 'fluffy'!

There are lots of diagrams, videos and info about it on line. I was very sceptical, but it's worked wonders for me, so there's a chance it will help you too!

Sport Maneuver works most of the time for me. I sit on the side of my bed and go through several repetitions whenever I'm having an episode. Sometimes I have to resort to taking an over the counter motion sickness medication. I try to avoid that as it makes me drowsy.

I use the Ep;ey maneuver when I get the dizzies, it works for me.

I've never heard of the Epley maneuver. I've been reading about it. I have only had one severe bout with vertigo and it was thought to be from chemo. But when I have allergies, I notice that I get those same mild symptoms. I will put Epley to the test if I ever have the problem again. I do have a question though. Doesn't being on a boat make the symptoms worse?
