It's Valentine's day soon.
Steve asked what I wanted.
I replied, "Same a last year".
We wait until a week or as after Valentine's day and then we go out for lunch at a local pub.
It's cheaper, quieter and just what we like.
Y'day while Steve was out with his friend Bob, Betty phoned and asked if I'd like to go and get the cheap vegetables from the nearby...

I just can't bring myself to take part. When DH and I met, it was a chance to be romantic. Now it just seems to be a way to extract money.
Normally I try and set a good example for bear, so that he is good to any partner he may have, but I just can't bring myself to go through with it on Valentine's Day.
I think your celebration is perfect.
What a sensible solution and how nice of him to ask. Usually one gets the obligatory box of chocolates or bunch of flowers.
Our son was born on St. Valentine's day many moons ago. I had a dreadful day, but got the best present anyone could hope for!
St. Valentine's day was always a round of children's parties from then onwards, and when our son grew older and wanted to go out for a meal to celebrate his birthday, we were surrounded by romantic couples. We got asked many times why we had our child with us on what should have been a romantic date, and I explained patiently on the first few occasions, before getting totally fed up of being asked and going into 'bitch mode'!
Even now, after all these years, with our son in his mid thirties and married with a family of his own, we still celebrate his birthday instead of having a romantic meal. This year we're having a meal out on Sunday 13th, with him and his family, and on 'the day itself' we're 'grandchild minding' so romance will not be any sort of priority!
DH and I will have a quiet meal out sometime during the following week!
Hopefully Steve will feel inspired, and give you something wonderful for 'Val's day'!
Take care, X
That sounds nice! Enjoy!
I think you have the right idea! We decorate the table but have a nice meal at home. Go out another day!
I just have this awful fear that when I have my covid test before I get on the plane, I will wind up testing positive. I don't even want to go out. We'll have a nice meal at home, I think. What's more, I don't think my husband will mind at all.
