Freezer problems

There is only a tiny 1cu ft freezer on the boat and we're having problems with it. It is part of a Shoreline combined fridge freezer, it looks a bit like this.

If we have the temperature set so the freezer keeps things frozen the fridge ices up and doesn't work.

If we alter the temperature so the fridge works everything in the freezer defrosts!

So today I threw away a bag of frozen peas a a handful of frozen chips, we will use the freezer as an extra fridge space.

Captain Hot Stuff isn't sure he can live without chips but he's going to have to try.

A replacement would cost about £500!

Have you Googled the make? and is it renowned for freezing defrosting etc I always Google a problem to see if someone has solved it or it is a known fault.

I have checked it out, it seems to be down to the age of the item,

What a nuisance that the thing doesn't work properly, Hester! I'm sure, though, Captain H-S can live without chips! You could always make your own oven chips from potatoes, could you not? A bit more work than just plonking some ready mades onto an oven tray, but it is possible with just five minutes' effort to keep the Captain happy? Just a thort!

I think you will just have to either make your own chips or persuade him that chips are bad for him.

Shame, my laptop has died and I'm trying to find another for a decent price.

I could make chips, but it's frozen ones he likes best.
