I defrosted a tub of what I thought was cooked minced beef today to make into cottage pie.
I placed it in an enamel dish, cooked and mashed some potato to top it with.
I put it in the oven until it was piping hot throughout and the mash was nice and crunchy.
It tasted ok but it was actually liver and bacon!
Oh well Steve didn't notice it wasn't minced beef.

My husband would never say anything he is just grateful if I feed him lol
We've had some lucky dip meals in our house when the sticker has come off or the ink has run on the description!!
Last week I defrosted what I thought was a tomato and veg sauce, to serve with meatballs. Then we realised it was tomato&mince - so it turned out to be a very meaty dish!
LOL! You have invented a new recipe!Well, anyway,it was meat and potatoes - so it must have tasted okay!
Well - I'd love both so no problem.
I bet you didn't tell him until it was eaten!!!
Haha ... well at least it was savoury and not the base for a blackberry crumble. I wonder if Steve would have commented on that :-)
The biggest lie I tell myself is that I will remember the contents of these random containers in my freezer
All so true, folks! I laughed at your comments and myself. Lately, I just pull two or three dabs out and try to make something edible. I can always hold something over to the next day if doesn’t fit in with the rest.
That reminds me! I need to go through the refrigerator freezer TODAY!

Sounds rather a good alternative actually.
When our neighbors moved they gave us some packages from their freezer. I knew they had venison someone had given them as their children refused to eat it ( thinking of Bambi). I invited friends for a venison dinner but when I defrosted the venison it was a pheasant!
I'm such a fan of all game that I could eat Venison whilst watching Bambi's mum get shot!
Blame my father's family, they had the sole hunting and shooting rights to our local woodlands, so being a carnivore is just bred in to me!
We did once have very sweet mushroom risotto, not due to a freezer mix-up, but, intending to throw sugar into a pan of fresh peas and carrot chunks, I flung it merrily into the pan of risotto bubbling away next to it by mistake! My poor long suffering husband just laughed, said life's never boring with me, and ate it! Actually, the sweet risotto was served with venison haunch left over from the previous evening! X
My husbands favourite meal.
I'd bet money that many a new recipe has been discovered because somebody mistook A for B. As long as it was edible, mission accomplished - you had a good meal.
