Itchy, bitchy and knackered

To celebrate VE day we held a socially distanced picnic on the marina. There are a few of us that are stuck here because of the "essential journeys only" rule.

I made sandwiches, fruit cake and cheese straws, someone else made scones, shortbread and Victoria sponge, there were also sausage rolls and crisps.

It was very successful, it stated at 3:30 and people were still out there at 8:30.

I came in at about 6 as I was knackered after a bad night the night before and I was being bitten to buggery. I have in excess of thirty bites, I need to dig out the antihistamine cream.

Your party sounded lovely. Sorry about bites - if I remeber right you have severe reactions to bites every summer? have you managed to find anything to ease pain and itching?

Sorry about the bites - I expect it was because of your proximity to water.

I hate gnat bites, they make me so irritable. I swell to buggery. Correct me if I'm wrong do they actually serve a purpose in the grand scheme of things!!!

I always get bitten a lot when I am out too. The little blighters see me coming and think "free lunch" and then they tell their friends and come and have a party at my expense. I don't use an antihistamine cream any more. Instead I take an antihistamine tablet and use Eurax cream and I find this more effective. Boots do their own brand of Eurax. It is the same ingredients but a bit cheaper and it is called Dermacare Itch Relief Cream (Crotamiton). Just saying what works for me in case it is helpful.

You could also try using Avon Skin so Soft original. It is not advertised as an insect repellent but it works for me. Use it before you go out.

Somebody told me about Avon Skin So Soft original and I got some but it just did nothing for me. So I am sticking with my two pronged attack of tablets and cream in order to get some sleep : ) I put on a very thin layer of the cream and if that does not do the trick, I put on another very thin layer 20 minutes later. This normally calms everything down so I can get off to sleep.

Late to the party here but citrus is a great bug repellent...I always used to be the first to be treated as a top class bug buffet until I started using Lemon Source shower gel. Now, thankfully, I barely get a nibble (even when I went to Australia the mozzies ignored me). May be worth trying to add some lemon/citrus to your daily routine.

Stew

Y'days lamb was delicious and there is lots left. So today I'm making a stew, I'll use half of the left over lamb and add onion ...
