Master criminal at work

Either there is a new scam going around or I'm in deep trouble.

I answered the phone yesterday to hear a recorded message from the Financial Crimes dept Bank of England. The message informed me that there was a warrant out for my arrest and to press 1 to speak to an advisor. I was warned that if I didn't press 1 and stay on the line the police would arrive as they waiting outside my house. Anyone spot the problem with this?

Yeah, I don't live in a house!

I don't think I've ever had enough money to have committed a financial crime.

They're standing outside someone's house waiting for you! You'd better get the engine started!

I do wonder how many people have fallen for this terrible scam.

Me neither, mind you yesterday I rang the water board after a call telling me to press one and listen to the message. These days I treat every call as a hoax until I am told different, hence the call to the water board. Apparently there had been a problem with the water in the village!! Ours was ok.

I just distrust anyone who phones me up out of the blue and don't tell them anything.

I have had a few of those. I always tell them that I will put the kettle on and make a cuppa for the boys in blue.

I usually get the one that says they think I have just had an accident. I'm tempted to tell them that I have and am just about to change my knickers. lol

Video circulating here of a town police chief getting a call from a scammer, being threatened with the “ police” if he doesn’t do what they say! So funny!

Phone scams are so cruel, I think. I had one the other day saying I had overpaid on a utility bill and they would send me the refund due if I would press 1 to continue. The caller ID said it was my hospital calling and I knew I did not pay utility bills to them. I just hung up but wondered how many would fall for that.

That's the tricky part. People get flustered and stop thinking critically. 'Social Security' called here yesterday. My husband hung up on them. He came out of the office saying, "I'm hoping that was a scam..." Of course it was. Social Security does not call you at home. They send letters to your address. No matter how many times that is announced to people here, still, when the call comes...

We have a wardrobe in the bedroom that was left by the previous resident. It is perfectly sound but it smells of stinky feet. I've tried...
